It didn’t take very long for newly-minted Hall of Fame pitcher CC Sabathia to become a golf fanatic.
On this week’s episode of Subpar, Sabathia described his golf habit as an every-weekday affair.
“If the sun’s out, I’m playing golf,” Sabathia told hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz. “I usually don’t play on the weekends, but five days a week I’m at the golf course.”

Sabathia said he took up golf during Covid.
“You could either ride a bike or play golf to be outside, and I tried to ride a bike and that didn’t work out,” Sabathia said. “Went to the golf course and kind of never left, to be honest.”
In years since he started playing, Sabathia has become a single-digit handicap, with a reported 7.7 index.
“I play more like an 11 most days,” he said with a laugh.
Sabathia has also had the chance to play some of the best courses in the country, and he shared his favorites, which include Winged Foot, Hudson National and Hamilton Farm in the Tri-State area.

“There’s some views on Hudson where I take pictures and people on my Instagram are like, ‘You’re in the Bahamas?’ And I’m like, No, I’m like I’m in New York,” Sabathia said. “So I love Hudson.”
Sabathia also mentioned Due Process in Colts Neck, N.J., and says he’s looking forward to playing the soon-to-open Trout National, a TGR Design in Vineland, N.J.
“I feel like the Northeast has the best golf in the country,” Sabathia said, noting he’s also played Shinnecock, National Golf Links of America, and Bethpage Black on Long Island. But there’s one top-ranked course where Sabathia says he’s hoping to take a mulligan.
“I wanna get back to Pine Valley,” Sabathia said. “Somebody took me to Pine Valley my very first year of playing golf, and it was the worst day of my life. So I definitely need to go back and and try that out again.”
